Tech Valley News Lake Placid Named a Top Outdoor Town Learn more at America’s 10 Best Outdoor Towns MSN's top 10 list is dapated from “101 Best Outdoor Towns: Unspoiled Places to Visit, Live & Play” by Sarah Tuff and Greg Melville. These towns "have not only back doors to some of the country’s best adventure terrain, but also lively, livable communities that are dedicated to playing in and preserving the great American playgrounds," according to MSN. At the top of the list is Lake Placid - home to two Olympic Winter Game - which features six million acres of the Adirondack Park; 2,000 miles of trails; and 3,000 lakes and ponds. Described as having an "inimitable, warm-fuzzy feeling about winter sports," visitors can check out the 1980 Miracle on Ice site, take toboggan ride on Mirror Lake or bobsled and luge runs at the Olympic Sports Complex.
