Lake Placid Named a Prettiest Town in U.S.

Lake Placid was recently named one of American’s 20 prettiest towns by Forbes Traveler.

"They’ve each got something special that should put them on the savvy traveler’s radar," writes Rob Baedeker.

Five experts contributed to the list. Greg Melville and Sarah Tuff Dunn, co-authors of "101 Best Outdoor Towns," both named Lake Placid for its “natural grandeur and small-town charm."

"It's got the jagged mountain backdrop surrounding a quaint, unpretentious ski village bordered by two crystal lakes," Melville told the magazine. "[It’s] the closest you can get to living out West when you're in the East."

Dunn told the magazine that Lake Placid is "classic Main Street, pine-speckled hills and pristine small lakes."

The village – which has hosted two Olympic Games in 1932 and 1980 – was also recently named the top outdoor town in the U.S.

Melville and Tuff have more than 20 combined years writing experience in the magazine and publishing industry. Both are former editors of Men's Journal and have written numerous annual round-ups for top adventure for National Geographic Adventure, Men's Journal, and Best Life, among others.
