Armor Manufacturer Sets Up Shop in Region

Ground was broken Tuesday for Armor Dynamics’ new $1.2 million, 10,000-square foot plant in the Kingston Business Park that will manufacture vehicle and body armor, known as Magmacore, when it opens next year.

"We are looking forward to moving into this new facility and know it will be a tremendous resource for us as the company begins its next phase of development," said Dave Warren, the company’s president and co-founder.

Armor Dynamic will initially employ 15-20 workers at the plant, which will serve as its headquarters and base for manufacturing and research and development. There are plans for an additional 57,000 square feet for manufacturing and potentially hundreds of new jobs.

“This will give us the start,” Warren said.

Armor Dynamic was founded three years ago after the Wall Street Journal published an article about inadequate armor being issued to U.S. troops in Iraq.

Magmacore – which is already being used in Iraq – is extremely adaptable technology used to make vehicle armor, security shields and other products. The lightweight material helps defend against weapons ranging from high-caliber bullets to improvised explosive devices. The company is looking to expand into the building materials industry.

State Sen. William Larkin Jr. helped obtain a $1 million grant for the project.

“Their products will certainly help save lives, and the company will provide new manufacturing jobs and investment in Kingston. I was happy to be able to deliver state support for this important project," Larkin said.

Construction could be completed in six months.
