Area Colleges Get High Marks for Value
University at Albany (67), SUNY New Paltz (78) and Plattsburgh State (79) all ranked among the top 100 schools in Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine's survey of best values among public universities for in-state students. For out-of-state students, UAlbany ranked 39th, New Paltz placed 46th and Plattsburgh came in 62nd among public schools.
Marist College was ranked 49th among private schools. It is the third consecutive year Marist has appeared in the rankings.
"We're honored to be included in such company," said Kent Rinehart, dean of undergraduate admission at Marist. "Our applications are up 25 percent over the past two years, which can be attributed to the college's enhanced reputation, increased popularity, and our students, who go back home and tell their friends how much they enjoy Marist."
Kiplinger's rated campuses on academic quality, cost and availability of financial aid. More emphasis was placed on academic strengths than costs.
The rankings are based on data provided by more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities.
